Big blow to lose Dingle so somebody will need to step up and replace his points output.
Also whilst the Stars aren't quite the Clan they have a couple players like Faryna who straddle the line between gritty and dirty in their agitating with the muscle of Cescon to back them up so we will need to match them in terms of physicality or outsmart them and use the PP to punish them.
The treatment of the Brits is a joke. Gunn is easily good enough to play on our third line week in, week out and would steadily accumulate points there whilst letting no one down. Wilson, Scoon and Smith would be a reasonable fourth line as well, not a line that gets rolled often but one to eat up a couple minutes a period and give young Smith a few opportunities. Wands and Muir stepped up and were rock solid when we really needed them earlier this season and should be munching minutes for us. Based on those displays during that injury hit period I'd have been rolling with four import D and using the freed up slot to bring an extra forward.
Cardiff have two pretty limited Brit forwards in Piggott and Jones but have long used them on a fourth line with one of the import centres from the top lines dropping between them when needed. This line eats up a few minutes, checks hard and does a job with these players also pitching in on the PK. If we're going to dress Wilson and Scoon then we could at least use them or have moulded them for something like this.
We could easily have had Craig Moore and Tyler Plews as our Brit d-men playing proper minutes with Muir and Wands purely covering for injuries though they've shown that they can more than that this season.
Gunn should be playing on our third line week in, week out. And we should have the likes of Chad Smith filling in as spare forward the way Ben Edmonds has at Dundee and look how he's come on.
Who are the best young Brits in Scotland? Sullivan, Buesa, Beattie, Plews, Boyd, King, Ferguson, Edmonds, Moore, Inglis, McGiffin and Grieveson are all playing roles ranging from serious minutes to still breaking through but all are getting more ice time than any young player at the Flyers and all are progressing. We have nobody in this role and it's shocking.
Whilst he's not the (size of) player most on here think the team needs I think if we'd have signed this guy in the summer we'd have been pleased and optimistic given his previous scoring so a positive move but hopefully not the only change in the offing.
Thanks for the updates Stirling. Great result over a decent Dundee side.
Massive respect for Schaber, no shame in coming off second best to Cescon who is a genuine heavyweight and one of the toughest in the league but Schaber held his own. Also for Fox who not for the first time this season was straight in to protect a team mate.
