I think there is a lot riding on that last import signing.
There is also a lot to prove for some imports such as Leblanc and Berzins.
But more postively we look to have a good core to the team who will fight for each other, a really exciting player in Young who could be a star, decent netminding and a couple of really decent young and local Brits on the books.
That aforementioned last import needs to be a big, tough d-man in the McIver or Cescon mould. Would still love Zahn! Also think we need proper cover for Stockton if he is still out as Isaacs up front weakens the forwards and the defence through his absence. Would rather Smith played wing and an import for ward filled in at center.
It's good to hear that we 'made a fist of it' BUT the truth of the matter is Todd through his inept recruitment has once again left us vulnerable when it comes to the physical side of the game. All the other teams have built squads that can adopt a physical style when needed,( by all accounts Braehead did it last night and turned the game on it's head ) all the other coaches in the Elite league will be well aware of this and would be doing their team a disservice if they don't use these tactics against us if the their A game isn't going to plan, so unless we sign two guys who can give us some real toughness last nights game could just be a sign of things to come.
So having seen Dundee and Edinburgh that definitely aint happening. Guildford I doubt have that in their game, so I guess we just need to avoid getting a doing regularly from the rest of the heavyweights and we'll sneak a playoff spot.
Oh aye the Caps only have Anderson, Grigors, Stefishen, Plews, Islamov and genuine heavy Valeyev willing to drop them.
Stars have Emerson "Freight Train" Hrynyk as a genuine tough guy and Stadel and Lawrence who are not scared of a rumble.
Maybe didn't lose us the game but has an impact on guys getting jumped and hurt
You could argue that Gauthier deciding tie drop them with Oslanski set the wrong tone in the game. Oslanski is a key guy along with Burt and I wonder if that gIve Cescon the green light to jump Young who as you no doubt understand is vital for us. Oslanski I may add can look after himself as he demonstrated against Schaber.
Not sure we still need what people see as the ultimate nuclear deterrent, won't bring enough to this team.
Clan still have us for depth by the time they add the final 3, such a luxury throwing MacKenzie and Haywood out there on he PK and they do a good job.
When stating I think we need a really tough player for our last signing I'm by no means calling for a Klotz style brawler who brings little else. Clan to be fair seem to nail these sort of signings, I'd like to see someone like Cescon or McIver on our defence. A really experienced d-man who will be really solid at the back and provide real toughness when needed but also the likes of Cochrane would learn loads from a signing of this ilk. Look how well Sullivan came on at the Clan when playing with McIver. In terms of a forward it would be someone like Doty at Clan or Riley at the Giants, really tough but also capable of a point scoring role. Even someone like Schultz who didn't end up fighting much at the Caps last year had the fighting record to go with the point scoring.
We really need a tough guy as our last signing. Gauthier and Schaber are great team toughness guys who can hold their own but Heelis and Young took beatings. Shame Muir isn't five inches taller and five stone heavier.
