No disrespect to Isaacs who I think is a decent defenceman but why would you block 2 young Brits and play him as a forward? I defend Todd when I can but this is utterly unbelievable. Beattie and Smith could be decent players for a number of years if they're given that experience whereas Isaacs is a veteran who has never been and never will be an effective forward.
2 teams trying to play the same way with the flames the better side through most of the game. Silly puck handling errors and at times slow indecisive play especially on the PP stopped us from taking points in this one.
Flames were faster more aggressive in their game plan and played with their full bench. We rolled 14 imports for most of the second half of the game.
Issacs being up front isn't working. Either play him in defence or replace him. LeBlanc despite a few flashes and an very well taken goal was a passenger way to often. I know someone will go on about points etc but that's more to do with his linemates than anything else. The guy just doesn't skate and the missing workload is falling to other guys.
We have a decent squad that needs a few changes now to allow us to really push on.
Last thought Young is easily our best player. Terrific find.
I agree with most of that but not the bit about LeBlanc. How often do we complain about our forwards being too similar? We have numerous guys who can skate hard but probably none will put up the same numbers as LeBlanc. We've got guys who can compensate for his weaknesses but if we replaced him would we definitely get someone with his offensive production? I'm not so sure.
It's the old Bobby argument again but if guys like that could skate like the wind and score goals they'd most likely not be in the UK.
Tonight was a decent game but we got severely punished for some slack play. Would still say a more enjoyable night than we'd been used to the previous 2 seasons.
Flyers tweeting Guildford and Mk commiserations for their losses 🙈
I know, our twitter is getting as cringeworthy as the DJ
It's being used by someone as an account for self gratification. Why nobody controls it I'll never know- but there we are.
Match night experience is also a big one for me- truly awful.
I've not really got a problem with the coach's or players but we definitely need to be able to find a way of not being bullied particularly at home and have a more exciting style of play. Not easy on lower budgets than other clubs, but our squad has been so 'samey' the past 3/4 years.
He'll do well. Very popular at Braehead already and he's not even here yet. Like someone said a couple of posts ago, if he'd signed for Fife, you'd be doing cartwheels down Kirkcaldy High Street. Welcome to Braehead Ryan!! 😀
Do you always jump straight onto the Flyers forum to gloat about any Clan signing you like?! Why on earth would you welcome 'Ryan' to Braehead on here?
Think there's very few Flyers fans would dispute that he looks a good signing.
Am I the only one finding these pointless pun attempts more offensive than our actual recruitment? Took me about 10 minutes to work out what the Birzin one meant, or was meant to!
The guy that runs the Flyers social media account is an ignorant tool. Countless times I've asked @official Fife Flyers a question and he hasn't answered a single one, and that's not just from myself either. Give me the Clan's or Storm's social media guy/gal every time as they have the decency to answer questions from their own fans.
Mitch Nylen is our final D man after today's announcement
Have I missed something here, as we should still have 1 import d-man still to sign even if we have signed Mitch Nylen?
Which is today's announcement....
Nylen looks a very promising player but unfortunately in the context of what we have already he's not what we need. Same with Finucci- did a great job last year and would have been fine if we'd announced him much earlier.
Todd promised physicality this season because he knows that's what the crowd want, Hutchy told us that by waiting we'd get a higher class of player...... They'd have been better saying nothing as all they did was raise false hope.
Budget looks like it's been absolutely slashed. Short sighted thinking IMO.
If we're lucky we may have a few gems but we've got a small goalie who'll get no protection by the looks of it and a lot of uninspiring looking forwards. Where the spark to light up FIA going to come from?
I'm pretty sure the sponsors know as much as the average fan, no one outside the directors, coaches and one other will actually know the state of play with import signings.
The original source was Hutchins with this info to high profile sponsors. And yes there is probably some merit in not showing your hand, only to a certain extent though.
I have my doubts that anyone will be watching what the Flyers do when it comes influencing their own team building.
For the poster who thinks it's 'genius' Id say you're well off the mark there. This is not a deliberate ploy and Todd himself has said he wished we were further ahead and he knew the value of getting the news out asap.
We're a gate based club supposedly- it's more important for the fans to know asap what kind of team we may have. Look at the replies on social media to Flyers this morning asking which game everyone was looking forward to- virtually the only comments back were from folk saying they were only looking forward to anything when we knew we had a team.
There are a couple of problems with the way kihc is run and way flyers are run that get in the way of it being one club one philosophy. Flyers have a hard enough time sorting their own team out so don't want to also be responsible for juniors coming through. If they did they would have to contribute cash which they also dont like to give away. The ex player coaches at kihc have no loyalty to the club hence their own kids jumping ship at the first opportunity this negativity filters through all the team's towards the flyers. The ex player coaches are in the main coaching their own kids and that's why they are there. All of them at some point have fallen out with flyers again not a great relationship. Bar plewsy who is a cracking coach who genuinely tries to better all his players, the rest are very limited in their coaching so unless the player is talented they are not coached to be better. Like the flyers kihc needs swept out and to be run to its full potential. Both are bring run behind the times.
Why should they have 'loyalty' to a club that has given them nothing in return. True the kihc is practically run by ex pros, however that is not a negative whatsoever, kihc is the best junior set up in the country, results have proven that, the juniors havent dropped out of top 2 in scotland in 10+ years in every age group, and also beating english competition consistently. If not ex pros, then who else? Joe blogs off the street whos been to a couple flyers games and thinks he knows the sport. No thanks, thats how most of the clubs in scotland are ran and hence how they lose to kihc juniors in double figures every game.
I'm genuinely interested as to why so many local ex-Flyers appear to hate the club so much.
What is they expect 'in return' from Flyers that players from other clubs presumably get?
Serious question, as to many outsiders like me the animosity seems totally bizarre- but guessing there must be a reason of sorts.
