Rumours on THF that Simms tweet earlier this week relates to import level dropping and........maximum skaters allowed during games will be 19 dropped from IIHF standard of 22.
So basically banning 4 line hockey and dropping spaces for Brits to 6 per team.
If that is right I haven't seen anything so backwards thinking in a hell of a long time. The import level yeah ok that can be argued about forever but reducing the number of players you can dress is unbelievable. If this is right for me the EIHL just took a massive backwards step or 10.
If that's true I think that'll be every non arena team pushing back, it's a step backwards like you said but does it not maybe make it easier for the "other 6" teams in the league to compete? I might be missing your point here though
Swarfiga this isn't a new thing when nicker was here his first season keefe was done 3 times for elbows to the head and one off them was on Clarkson when he was at the devil's and he knocked him out yet he still got the same ban 4 games every time yet nicker was getting bigger bans for lesser offences.it should be same as nhl if you get done for same offence your ban should be doubled especially for offences connected to the head ie cross checking elbows boarding should be a minimum 4 game ban .like someone said earlier think they have looked at nyquist incident and used that as a benchmark the problem is as we all know consistency
Completely agree with everything you say, I just said looking at it as an isolated incident he deserves a ban, 3,4,5 games whatever, but looking at it comparatively to other incidents it's a horrendous decision
It's a missed stick lift but he misses it by quite a bit, I'm not overly sure there's not a bit intent there to be honest. It just shows how inconsistent and corrupt dops is though, it's bad and deserves a few game ban when you look at it as an isolated incident BUT he's not a repeat offender, how many times has Bordeleau been done for checking to the head and served a minimal game ban, it's by no means the worst thing we've seen this year but I believe it's the highest ban handed out? Certainly 1 of the highest. It goes in with everything else though, the league will never ever get to that next level until there's an independent board running it and reviewing it.
Anyone else see Dave Simms tweet after yesterday's board meeting. Sounds like bad news is on the way. No idea what it is but I am really starting to fear we are dropping out the Elite. Hope I'm totally wrong
I heard the meeting that took place between Fife Edinburgh and Dundee was to discuss creating a team that was going to be put into this proposed second tier to develop their youngsters whilst they stayed in the elite. May be wrong though, I get the feeling we are leaving, I think that's maybe why Todd is coming across like he isn't interested anymore
I suppose you could let anyone whose played a certain amount of games in for free or guys like Chic who was a really good coach and contributed a lot of time to the junior development. It'd be pointless letting folk in for free that iced 5 times during the SNL
I agree it's no right they pay but problem is drawing the line who pays and who doesn't, most them turn up with ex player pals, it's hard to say to 1 in you go you're a legend, and to his pal you weren't that special you pay.
I don't see why people are blaming Tam and the ownership, Todd has been backed by them but it's him that signs the players. He has got the wrong mix and his systems are totally wrong for our league. I can understand why they play a dump and chase hockey in the states/Canada as they have smaller ice pads but it just doesn't work over here. If we had a big physical player on each line that wanted to go into the dirty areas then maybe that would help but we don't so you are basically giving the puck straight to the opposition. There is good players in our lineup but Todd has made a major cockup by not signing players with a physical presence.
Aye but he was a presence, he obviously had a reputation amongst other players, when he was out injured or suspended Haines had to put up with hell, not so much when Pitton was next to him though. That's what we need, I'm not saying we need a Brian Mcgrattan but a couple of Pittons in the line up makes a real difference.
Look at the casey haines season, we played amazing hockey on home ice and we didnt have the enforcer.
Jason Pitton was an enforcer, he had fought some of the toughest around in the AHL before coming to play here. Hamish McAlpine Tommy Muir Jeff Caister to name a few all gave us proper team toughness. Hamish was a big loss for us that season. We have never replaced him.
Probably didn't realise it enough at the time but that is a team I would love to watch play again. The played good physical hockey fought if required and stood up as a team.
By far the best team we've had at home in the elite league. Poor away form but at home were good to watch, had a good balance and that top line was a joy to watch at times, power forward, creative centre and a sniper.... surely it can't be that hard to find that mix again.
Laat night was the perfect chance to show some professional pride, go out and compete and try to beat a team we have struggled against all season. Well there was none of that last night. Majority of players looked like they were playing their last game of the season and already thinking about the beach.
Was it really that bad? I really do think its mental and physical exhaustion. Owen in particular, he looks a spent force. If I'm honest, I don't really blame the guys, they are restricted to a very narrow style of play.
Players have to take some blame this year, regardless of poor systems and coaching, you can't turn up not giving a **** half the time, like Thinel, Moyer occasionally, Fox, sisca, that's down to their attitude, you can't give them an excuse for being scared of body contact which some of them are most nights.
